In this issue I would like to share some interesting things which I experienced during these few years when I begin to penetrate foreign markets and more new countries.
First, I must say that there are a lot of selfish businessmen around. Most would not share their secrets with you, thinking that you may become their competitor. It is indeed a very selfish thought. It also revealed their weakness which is to say that they are not confident enough to meet up with competition.
By now, you may be wondering what I am talking about. It’s about what people tell you or didn’t tell you.
People will tell you certain things are difficult and it can’t be done etc. or they may just keep quiet and keep certain secrets to themselves.
Either way, it’s to prevent you from attempting to do something.
Here are some interesting examples:-
Last year in 2003, I happened to meet a speaker who claimed to have done very well in China. After listening to my presentation in one conference, he commented that my seminar can only do well in Malaysia and Singapore, because it’s too high energy ! And he specifically mentioned that for China market they need more knowledge content. What a bull ! Luckily I didn’t listen to him. I gave a seminar in Hang Zhou, China recently and it went like a BOOM !
On my way back I dropped in at Hong Kong. (Sometimes ago I dealt my books with Hong Kong through a Singapore agent). The way my agent portray was as if the market was very tough etc. I decided to do it myself this time. And what do you know ? The book distributor and purchasers were so friendly and nice and were very excited to introduce my books into their market. So, if you really want to come up in life, here’s some very important pointers to you:-
1. Do not simply believe what you hear just because you have heard it for a long time.
2. Do not follow tradition blindly merely because it has been practised in that way for many generations.
3. Do not be quick to listen to rumours.
4. Do not confirm anything just because it agrees with your scriptures.
5. Do not foolishly make assumptions.
6. Do not abruptly draw conclusions by what you see and hear.
7. Do not be fooled by outward appearances.
8. Do not hold on tightly to any view or idea just because you are comfortable with it.
9. Do not accept as fact anything that you yourself find to be logical.
10. Do not be convinced of anything out of respect and deference to your master or spiritual teachers.
The world is our market nowadays. Even if you fail in one country there are still 217 countries for you to attempt. Question is, do you dare to do it ? You will be astonised by what you are going to discover.
May you get the direct experience.
Your fellow traveler in time.
